Easter: A Personal Journey

The celebration of Easter has existed long before it was the basis for Christian tradition. The Spring festival honored the goddess Eostre or Eastre, pronounced Easter. She was the Anglo Saxon goddess of the dawn and the Vernal Equinox. Her name was exemplification of the sun rising in the east. This annual event in honor of Eastre celebrated new life and renewal.

The Christian tradition of Easter became a commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus after the crucifixion. This day of celebration falls on different dates and requires different acts of symbolization depending upon a persons choice of faith (belief system).

We in Unity (Metaphysical based belief system) experience the resurrection as an always present possibility to personally change, restore and overcome the negative experiences in our lives, which are harmful and destructive to our mind and body. Yes! We see Jesus as our way shower, our example of man accomplishing the ultimate overcoming. Through the Christ, absolute Principle, The God-Idea in man.

Jesus lived what he taught and taught what he lived. His entire life and death (from a mortal sense) was a demonstration of the great manifestations and goals of life. The power and importance of the externality of life — such things as love and joy, understanding and faith, sharing and service to others. We can read and reread the Easter story and each time we will find something new to stimulate our way of living.

Jesus was the example of the very ideal of the Christ Consciousness within each and everyone of us. And as we travel our personal journey of life, choosing to emulate His teachings, we too shall bring forth the Christ Consciousness within our own lives. Then we too will experience our Resurrection.
